Nice contrast of stone and glass.. nice lighting too. Composition is halved which leaves an odd perfect balance which is slightly unpleasing (thirds rule, where the base lands is strong 2/3 mark, but everything else forces a bisection)

Thank you for your analysing and friendly comment. I really appreciate it. But I dont know exactly what you mean by third rule...just picked up a camera a couple of months ago...Maybe one day I'll understand. Thanks anyway...

Hi Janet ... one of many great pics, this.

The "thirds" thing is simple: when I first worked in a photographer's studio, it was always drilled into me to "follow the rule of intersecting thirds". In other words, what you are supposed to do is divide your viewfinder frame into nine rectangles -- three rows and three columns -- and align your horizontals and verticles with one of the lines dividing these rows and columns. It's also said to be a good idea to locate focal points in the picture at the intersection of these lines. Well, that's fine, and it does often lead to an interesting asymmetry. But rules are made to be broken, and in my opinion this is one of those times when breaking the rule is right.

I see this as a good use of something broken. Table shine is good leading to the object.

Janet... you "See" Photo's Very well, go ahead and Learn the rules, but don't let them control you. or if possible shoot one with "the rules" and one with your instinct. I Think the rules really are a way of teaching "The Eye" for Photography... If you Got it You Got it.

This is simply an excellent composition. I shoot primarily in black and white, but even I know good color work when I see it. The detail in this image is also marvelous.

I don't pay any attention to "The Rule of Thirds," or many of the other supposed "Rules of Photography" (which is probably why lots of people don't like my photographs). Rules are fine if you want to be formulaic, or if you want to compose and shoot like everyone else. I'm of the opinion that a photographer should find his or her own style or look. You seem to be doing just fine at it.

thank you so much, it means a lot! This is one of the photograph I started with (and without using PS). Because I don't have the technical skills that is needed to make the pictures I truly want -and I really get frustrated over that-, I'm just wasting my time photoshopping over and over again. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction...I really appreciate it!
