This looks like a culex species...but where is the proboscis and palps. This coming from a entomologist by trade..and photo hobbyist. Very interested in this for a scientific point of view.

Lovely picutre though.

Jerry: This one is sitting on a birk tree but usually they sit on spider webs.

 

Dustin: This is a Mycomyia sp mosquito, I do not know the species. They feed on fungus and there are a lot of unknown species in this family. For all members of this family the proboscis is missing.
