appreciate any constructive critisism that can be offered.

Well-done portrait, but you might consider different clothing and background options. The black vest with black background for example. Very little contrast between the two.

Don't worry about the low ratings. I'm pretty sure that is the same guy who gave 6's and 7's to a picture of a cat.
