This fellow was hanging out under the front desk at the Santa Clara

Hotel in Cartagena, Colombia. The dark shape at the top is the

underside of the desk - I'm not sure if it would be better to crop

that out or not.

Quite amusing. In this case, I would probably crop the "desk" since it's not readily identifiable, and doesn't add anything between the two subjects.

Welcome to Photo.net - you've got a good portfolio starting.

difficult to decide, as Aaron said.. its not identifiable, but perhaps i would keep it anyway,

since the "roof" after all gives an impression of hiding or seeking some kind of shelter. Would rather crop the brightest area at bottom,. its stealing attention without adding. with that away the apperance of the desk work better too.

Good shot by the way.

Regards!

After judging closer i might withdraw my suggestion to crop the bottom if keeping the desk,

It may add a needed weight at bottom.

Alte, after more looking and some consideration, I was just about to agree with your first suggestion. The highlight on the street is a bit distracting. As for the issue of weight, I think the brilliantly coloured Tucan is "weighty" enough. I would even opt to keep the desk. The rest of the frame looks pretty sparse without it.

Perhaps your right Aaron, i feel the bottom complete the balance in one way, but since its so out of focus, its distracting at the same time...so i change mind... one more time :-)
