This has all the makings of an excellent shot. On my monitor, however, the faces are completely lost in shadow. Have you tried dodging the faces, or lightening the midtones of the image in Levels? I like the use of color (pink and green).

I intentionally exposed for the colors you like, letting the faces go. I think their faces would detract from the real story of the devastated home. But perhaps I'll experiment with your suggestion maybe on center figure and child to right.
