I like the composition very much. The image would have been improved if the exposure on the tracks and wood had not been so dark. Of course that would have been a difficult overall exposure, especially with film.

Marie, this is a great subject and perfect (!) composition! There are two areas to improve in my opnion....

1. Sharpness. The photo isn't particularly sharp or crisp in detail. This could be a couple of things, but mostly I'm guessing you didn't use a tripod. Tripods really, really help.

2. Exposure. You've over-exposed, here - the snow on top should show detail, but doesn't because it is over-exposed. Photographing white subjects when there's drker items in the viewfinder is tricky, becasue it fools your camera's meter. You have to make the camera adjust for that possibility.. Bracketing the exposure is the best bet, as one of the exposures should nail it.

Doug and Christopher thank you so much for your valuable comments.

Christopher; Do you think I could have achieved a much sharper image with the 1600 iso film I was using? ALSO, I've often heard of the bracketing technique but never applied it. How do I proceed? Is it full stops?

Marie, I like this alot for the richness derived from the brown of the rail underscored by the true black below. A nicely composed shot. Regards, Todd
