SYMBOLIC "Prayer for Tsunami Victims"

Shot with Fuji S7000 in RAW mode later converted to jpeg and saved for the web in Photoshop CS in low quality 15%. Shot at F3.1 optical zoom set at 210mm to defocus the far background, additional blur with maipulation in PS. As this was 4048 X 3040 raw saving for web needed very heavy compression which has resulted in jpeg compression artifacts.

Zafar, another piece of excellent image. He has that kind of thoughtful expression that makes one wonder what he is praying for & you have linked it to Tsunami. Well thought out. Rgds,Cherlyn

That must be he was praying for of that prayer beads he is holding. He is a religious man.

So, Dr. Rabbani, you are on to the seasoned people now. All your photographs are sharped

and crisped with full of expressions of wisdom and fulfilment in some of them. All these people

you portrayed made us aware that someday we will be like them too in a way. Thanks for sharing

and regards to your beautiful family, sally

By the way, if I was a little bit younger I could have volunteered and if I was not on vacation

when it happened. One of my nieces who is a nurse

from the Philippines went to help.

As pointed out in the comments about the blurring and the distractions of the background, I have edited the image and restored the rock behind him and just cloned out the colored drawing which somebody panited for which I blurred the background..... As I posted a request for the Tsunami Victims and your help and support so did not consider the imperfections of the portrait. The focus of comments were the prayers and not the photo as this photo is just a symbol as I pointed out in the title too and symbol can be anything. I just selected this one photo as it seemed to relate to prayers. Anyway thanks for the response. I highly appreciate.

Thank you all for your time and your good wishes.

It feels great to know that we are aware that the initial clean up of the Tsunami affected areas is not the end and there is more to it too. I hope all of us will try to do everything possible for these victims.

Thank you for taking time and writing few lines on this page I highly appreciate.

Kindest regards to all.

Firts of all, yes, this is a very good picture, very good dof and lightning.

But to be honest, the originality of this picture is not a 7, not to be disrespectfull to the tsunami victims, but i get the feeling this picture is getting it?s extreemly high ratings just because of that, as you self wrote, what this man is doing you don?t have a idea, he could be playing a game as far as we know, again, not to say its a bad pic, but this kind of pictures I se all the time here, an old man with wisdom in his eyes.

My point is that, its a good pic, an average in originality and a good one Aesthetics.

So i?m gonna give this picture a 3/3.

Not to disrespect the victims, but one should not get SO HIGH rates.

And one more thing, this gentleman on the pic, he is probobly an arab in mecka or something, so I just cant see twhat he has to do with the tsunami victims.

Regard Amin

The worst moments often bring out the best in people. Disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes often ignite an outpouring of generosity from individuals and communities who are moved to assist those whose lives have been affected.

The images of devastation prompt many to respond by donating goods for the victims. Donations of goods and services, also known as in-kind donations, can be valuable resources on a relief effort. However, misguided in-kind donations can also have the effect of hampering the relief effort if inappropriate or excessive contributions arriving at the disaster site impede the distribution of priority items. To prevent such a situation, the American Red Cross is very careful about the types of in-kind donations it accepts.

The information provided here is intended to provide you with some background on how in-kind donations fit into Red Cross disaster relief activities, and information about the most effective ways to help when disaster strikes. An important first step when thinking about donating goods to any relief agency is to determine what their policies are on in-kind donations, and ascertain whether they have a need, or the means, to accept your donation.

The death toll from the 26 December tsunami in the Indian Ocean has increased to 280,000. Indonesia raised its death toll to 220,000 from 166,000. Relief workers have found and buried about 95,000 to 100,000 dead bodies so far.

Tsunami survivors suffer skin infections

Physicians from different countries are reporting a number of serious skin wound infections among people who were injured in the recent tsunami and have recently returned home. Organisms such as pseudomonas, aeromonas, and multiply resistant E. coli have been documented. Typically, these organisms do not cause skin infections. However, as these people were injured in and around contaminated water, these organisms are not unusual.
