markskelly 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Very charming portrait. I think that what works here is the angle and composition. That's what caught my eye. Also, this looks like you were close to them and shooting wide. There's an intimacy here. I suppose that, classically speaking, there are compositional flaws, ie. her head is too far to the right, but I like to see work that tosses things up a bit. It's an interesting shot with a lot of personality to it. Much liked. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 9, 2005 what helps makes this approach work is the viewpoint and focus. the viewpoint exagerates the size and age difference in the subjects, and the focus on the girl accentuates her "dominance". yet, the exagerated tilt harmonizes the two as does the choice of soft contrast. the tilt also makes dynamic the all important eyes of the subjects, and that certainly heightens the image's impact and compellingness. there is nothing at all pretentious in the tilt because all of the photographic values deployed by the photographer make the tilt seem a "natural" choice. bda 0 Posted March 11, 2005 Nice one. The tilt works indeed very well here, and IMHO much better than in the other portrait of your children. I am still trying to understand why. Link to comment
