pnital 36 Posted January 24, 2005 Ray, that is a good angle, he is looking at her, she is looking the other direction. I would have cloned the shadow on the wall , good image. Pnina Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Great idea, cool capture, and I agree with Pnina's comment above. Perhaps another alternative crop just to stregthen the relationship between the viewer and the photograph? Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted January 24, 2005 for commenting and rating this photo. This famous piece was taken by Steve McCurry. Here is the color version. Link to comment
winstonli 0 Posted January 24, 2005 All necessary information were perfectly aggregated. I like the B/W better. Link to comment
maria conversano 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Wow! A masterpiece of a masterpiece! Congrats, Rey!!! Fantastic picture! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 24, 2005 That is my absolute FAVORITE photo ever!! I've got several copies of it, as well as the story about how they've found the woman again, and the photos of her from the most recent visit. You've done a wonderful job representing it here, Ray!! Link to comment
VKinCA 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Great Shot Ray! At what museum was this taken? I remember this Nat'l Geo cover -and the follow-up article. My eye caught this pic before I recognized your name, very different from your beautiful color work. I would not change a thing. What IS THE VALUE OF THE MOMENT if you go back and 'clone out' or digitally manipulate it? this lives! I would not de-value this capture. If it were originally taken on film? Then certainly no-one could question the authenticity. 70 / 6A Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted January 25, 2005 B/W version is my preference. It enhances the quietness mood of the museum, the secrecy of the aghan girl, the interest of the viewer. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 25, 2005 Afghan Girl portrait OF STEVE McCURRY is one of the best pictures that i have been seen ever in my life.Your composition is excelent. Also i loved the the layer is shining but i prefer another name for this photo because "afghan girl" is the name of Steve McCurry?s photo.Shadow of the man is excelent.Congrulations.Regards... mattvardy 0 Posted January 26, 2005 This portrait by Steve McCurry is easily one of my favourites, and it's neat to see it being viewed in-print by someone. I love the lighting in your shot. Only thing I dislike is the very awkward composition. How to improve? Hard to say. To start, I agree that the man's shadow is distracting. Next, I would have placed the Afghan girl away from centre-frame and not-so-close to the bottom. Finally, the other framed print at left isn't necessary imo. I do however like the National Geographic text at top. Overall, well done 5.5/6. Man I love that shot of the girl - the depth and emotion in her eyes is remarkable... probably why it's sitting on my desk right now ;) Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Thanks Matt, for commenting and and pulling up a photo, which is a great photo of my piece and a master piece. :D Link to comment
blago 0 Posted January 26, 2005 It's an extremely beautiful photo, Ray. Better leave it as it is. She "looks" at you as if you interrupted her talk with the gentleman staring at her.IMO, that saves your photo from the banality of taking a shot of a shot. Regards. Blago Link to comment
robert_lauder 0 Posted January 26, 2005 If DaVinci had a camera he would've taken that shot. We've to settle with the Mona Lisa. Link to comment
schneekranich 0 Posted February 1, 2005 I can agree with what Matt has said. Overall it's impressive, the girl seems to be the "living being" here, it really shows how much a photo can transport! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 11, 2005 Excellent shot Ray except the strong bottom shadow seems distracting. My vote though is the colour. Man is perfect,,the hat great. Link to comment
