On first looking at this photograph my impression was "very good" and "I wish.." Overall, we have to accept many limitations with such action photos and there are several here, as discussed. I too feel that some cropping and tidying would greatly benefit the image; the top centre branches do intrude and the right-hand-side horseman could be removed, etc. The question of what to do with jet trails remains. For a "re-enactment" photo they are an unwanted/unwelcome intrusion: but remove the word "re-enactment" and say "On the Great Western Trail - 2006" and I believe the photo become more of a surprise, more real and documentary - even with jet trails.

Apart from these limitations, which are fixable, I really like the image, thank you. Alan.

Good job, David. The photo comes so close to being a "classic". Still, an excellent photo. (I'll bet you wish that other cowboy was fully in the photo.) I especially like the horse motion ot the main rider with the right foreleg leading into the photo. Very nice.

Fantastic shot, love the dusty movement, I can almost hear the thunder of the hooves on the ground. Very much an ideal of what a UK girl thinks about the Great American Ranches. If I had to critique, which I don't, but I will, it is a shame there is a vapour cloud coming out of the cowboy's hat. However, I have to admit.....

......you have talent,

Claire

It is a great composition and pretty good depth of field. The contrast is great in this B&W shot. The only thing that I can suggest is the overcast of shadow on the right side of the face of Cow Boy which can be lessened in PS. Anything else not except 7/7. I did lessened the shadow and posted for comparison.

Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful original shot, overworked in Photoshop...not just the excess sharpening, also the excess sky drama. IMO straight photojournalism would have conveyed even more than this great illustration does. The sky takes away from the story.

Beautiful photo.....would like to see a version with some of the suggested changes. See attachment for my changes. Regards, Ken

Sky not very well inserted. However, a photo that is worth continuing to work on.

Needs a band of cloudless space at the tree line, then bring in the clouds.
