Hi, this is my first try here, at photo.net. I am also trying to

figure out how the system works. Please feel free to comment the pics.

Thank you.

you did well to include the human scale in a composition that is well framed and balanced as to tones. and I like photos that become more interesting to view once I stop to look as compared to photos that simply hit you over the head with impact and then bore you quickly to look elsewhere.

to answer your question, it's give and get. if you're looking for false praise well then the game is easy to make "friends" and exchange high rates but likely takes some energetic effort. but if you're looking for honest critique then it's give and get in that style, but there is the challenge to find people both qualified and interested in your work. so it's really up to you.

I am just a little curious to know why you have waited over a year before contributing.

As to this picture, it asks more questions than it answers. I am looking at it wanting to know more about the location etc etc.

This is a picture that does not speak for itself! It probably would speak for itself if the human was removed.

Hope to see more from you soon!

By the way, if you contribute to the site you will get more from it as has been said above!

Hi,

I am a beginner, and I have been watching this site for about a year, so that I can learn. I started photography about 1 and 1/2 year ago, but my photo activity is basically confined to a couple of weeks per year (sweet vacation time).

I simply did not feel that I am "worthy" enough to post pics.

The location is Lower Antelope canyon in Arizona, a pretty popular photo destination. I have a couple of shots without the human figure (i.e. myself), too. I thought that this is more interesting than showing the canyon only. But maybe not. That's why I am here, to hear critics.

Thank for your comments, I appreciate it.

Aesthetics are a personal thing. I like it. Technically too, I like it because you have fitted the entire dynamic range from shadow to highlight within the range of exposure.

I love slot canyons :) This one has been photographed quite a bit, but it's always amazing how differently the colors come out. I like having a person in the photo - it helps with scale. I also like that this person is looking up with a "Wow!" stopped-dead-in-his-tracks pose... the foreground is well exposed, and I like the colors, but I think you've got a bit of blown out detail in those yellow spots which don't work well for me. But a fine first photo on pnet! Welcome! Add more! :) Oh, and don't take the ratings too personally. Sometimes they don't make a lot of sense. Main thing is - please yourself first!

Hi,

Thank you for the welcome.

Yes, it is really odd how these colors turn out to be!

I am not worrying about ratings, I came to learn. If someone does not like my pics I hope he/she makes a comment regarding how/why he does not like it.

Thanks again
