The idea is good and the fact that you`ve finded that scene is indeed impresing. But as you say the most imacting part of the photo is a little detail in the lamps, why dont you show it more evidently? As the light was dark you could`ve be nearer. I think it would be better showing more contrast or more enfasis.

Eventhough GREAT WORK

I would like to see a smidge more contrast in the icicles, just for clarity, and since they are the real subject, why not crop the photo to emphasize them? Experiment to find out if that gives the picutre more punch. Great idea and what a brave soul your are to go out in beastly weather at night with a camera.

It's actually not night in this picture -- it's just before dusk on a heavily overcast day. I underexposed a couple of stops to avoid blowing the highlights on the light and icicles.

I wanted to have a strong contrast in hue, value, and size between the expanse of dim cool blue and the small, warm (colour-wise), crisp icicles & light.

I saw this in No Words, but searched it out here to add some words!

You obvioulsy worked hard to get this and were right in that these form a great subject. Colours and exposure handled well. But I too think it could be much stronger if you zoomed in on the icicles. They are unbelievably curved - excellent subject - next time you need to carry a ladder ... ;-)

Carrying a ladder would've been difficult. I walked 4km in fresh deep snow to get this shot.
