comments? I'm reposting this because I think there are 3 people who I am reporting that give low ratings, and is quite questionable. They each give out very similar ratings, just registered their name in the last day, and don't have any photos of their own. Probably the same person...the names are:Gloria JPeter SimpsonRobert Watson...My friend got the same exact thing from these people...we're on to ya!

When a photo is this awesome, you should really post a bigger version. Please. This is one of the best landscape photos on PN of all time (IMO).

So, are you saying that you shot 2 NEFs 2 stops apart and were still not able to pull the detail from the trees? Did you check the histogram of the brighter photo to see if you got everything? It seems pretty easy with a digicam, but maybe not.

Really nice. It was cropped, though, and I'm wondering where and why. I agree with Scott Eaton about the dodging. A trick in PS to avoid this artificial look is to forget about the dodge tool: instead, select the area to be brightened, soften the selection edges, and then use curve to brighten up that area overall, and finally bring down just a wee bit the shadow's input level using "Adjust levels". That way, shadows will remain black enough to look true. Regards.

Nice information about layering and dodging... Its like they say, altering the photons with a ND gradient filter is superior to altering the pixels after the fact- that being said this is a 7/7 masterpiece!!

I would have to agree with MacGregor, too bad this was not shot on a large or even medium format film camera. Film is so much more forgiving than digital when it comes to exposure latitude and detail, especially with landscape photography. Even a 35mm chrome is capable of about 20mp resoloution, if not more.

All the same, this is outstanding whatever the camera or technique! For me, 7/7

Te light and colours are simply heavenly. The trees make look little bit weird the way the image was proccessed, but it doesn't have to be a bad thing, depends how one looks at it. When viewed from a normal viewing distance (instead of grinding one's nose against the screen) it gives it a fairy-tale look. So and so, really, who looks at the trees...the eyes snap in to the mountain and the cloud right away. Rick, could you post the original picture?
