laura2 0 Posted January 13, 2005 I *love* those red telephone booths in London! I took this image because I found it to be gritty. You have the ancient window, the scuffy walls, and the nostalgic gaslamp...then these spanky bright red telephone booths! I softened the image a bit to play up the grittiness and the drearyness of the January weather in England. How do you like this image? :) Thanks in advance! Link to comment
jdn 0 Posted January 13, 2005 i think i really would like it better if it were crisp! 5/5 Link to comment
sue3 0 Posted January 13, 2005 I like this shot it is nostalgic and I like the red on red. I too would have liked to have seen a sharper image. still very nice composition. 6/6 Susanna C. Clapsadle Link to comment
jim_trombley 0 Posted January 13, 2005 Composition and lighting are great but I too would like to see it sharper. Link to comment
sarah marie jones 0 Posted January 16, 2005 I love the bold colorful graphic feeling, which the soft focus may enhance. Good eye. How long were you in London ? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 18, 2005 softness adds to the feeling of timelessness I think. adding sharpness might bring out the reality of the scene, and cement it in a specific time and place - but I'm perfectly happy with the whimsical dreaminess of it. the colors are so saturated, it looks halfway unreal already. laura2 0 Posted January 23, 2005 Actually, I had one of these done in a 5x5 print, and the softness worked out really nicely! I look forward to putting it into a matte black frame and presenting it to my dad. I wouldn't have liked it as much if it were sharp. Unfortunately, since none of you are locals, I can't show you how it looks as a 5x5 lustre print on paper. :-( Oh, and Sarah -- I was in England itself for 13 days and in London for 7. colin carron 58,916 Posted January 29, 2005 Laura, good shot! The red telephone boxes are few and far between now as they have mostly been removed or replaced with anonymous modern things. Fortunately the ones that survive are protected as 'listed buildings' for historical reasons. Link to comment
ricardoyamamoto 0 Posted March 17, 2005 Nice one. It's like a postcard (in the good sense of it). Not only the color, but the composition is nice I guess. Regards. Link to comment
nomade 1 Posted April 16, 2005 It's a nice and interesting crop, but the pixelation degrades its general good aim, I dont know if as result of the jpg compression or as a previous color manipulation. Also, beeing you here after a "geometrical" kind of image, there's a tilt to the right of the vertical lines, specially noticeable on the pole of the lamp. Solutions would be re-shooting with a longer lens and from farther away, and also in a post-processing step, a perspective correction. Link to comment
