johnw436 1 Posted January 12, 2005 The background could have been blurred more, but then again it adds context for me. I don't mind cropping and converting to B&W, but being new to this I still have a personal problem with Photoshopping a picture to death. Your thoughts? Constructive comments and advice welcome... johnw436 1 Posted January 12, 2005 Thank you for the great comments. Good comments are hard to come by on PN for some reason. Everybody tends to rate a photo without actually giving reasons why they rated it as such. I appreciate you taking the time to do so. Link to comment
mbh 0 Posted August 30, 2009 Nice classic shot, the smiles mirroring father and son show the love. You asked whether to blur the background or not. I'm of two minds. If you go with a wide-open aperture, you put the focus on the main subjects. So I think the 'classic' correct answer would be to blur out the background. But for me, in this kind of shot, I find a certain touch with reality is kept by leaving in the details of the couch, the counter, the little every day items of life. You've gone sepia on this, which also gives it an old time feel that I think works with the snapshot effect of everything being in focus. My two cents. Quite enjoyed the shot in either case.
