oswegophoto 1 Posted January 13, 2005 "There's a hole in yer pitcher, mister." <snicker>OK, seriously, this is masterfully lit, I'm glad you didn't crank it up to bring out the dark areas better; as it is, the modeling is exquisite. Strong composition, interesting choice of subjects. Works for me! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 13, 2005 Too much base and other detail lost to shadows and background. Red too saturated. 3/4 Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted January 13, 2005 Faith, your comments are appreciated. I have invested alot of thoughts and planning into every photo I shot. Everyone has different view of art,my intention is to capture the detail of the 2 objects and that is why the backgound has been arranged in such way. Keep up your learning experience, let me know if you have any questions regarding professional photo making. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 13, 2005 Your "investment" as may displease this viewer's aesthetic sense is your business to ignore, or to learn by. It's free of charge advice. Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted January 13, 2005 I agree with you Faith. I should be more careful selecting who I want to respond. However, in general I choose to respond to all of my viewers words, to express my thanks for their time. With all the respect, how long have you joined Photo.net? How come there is no photo art in your portforlio ? Anyway, thanks, and remember to take your time learning to appreciate the photo.net community might be your first step of becoming a professional photographer. I will try to adjust the brightness on my PC to make some of my photo to be a little brighter. Hey, I just saw your comments on Jay Weston, and I think his photo is excellent in composition as well as color tone Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 13, 2005 Your respectful response is of most interest to me, notwithstanding the reference to that other photo which is a matter of difference in taste and appraisal. Nonetheless, you have a lot to teach others here about respect and about photography. - Faith Link to comment
oswegophoto 1 Posted January 13, 2005 I said what I said about being glad you didn't crank it up, anticipating that someone would criticize it for being too dark. If this were for a pitcher catalogue, as an illustration of merchandise, I agree, it's a failure. I assume your intent is otherwise, and I believe it's acceptable to have details lost to darkness for aesthetic reasons (we're certainly used to that in nudes), when that is the intent of the artist. Do critics complain that Caravaggio should have lightened his shadows? "'Course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong." Link to comment

liuyuan 0 Posted January 13, 2005 Richard, to shed a little light on this, I personally think the light here is perfectly OK. I have a similiar attempt here if you care to take a look. Link to comment
jim_g.1 0 Posted May 5, 2005 This is a great photo, I really like the subdued lighting, it produces an image the way it might look when viewed with the eye. Great work. 6/6 Link to comment
