ivan_scipiades 0 Posted January 11, 2005 This is NOT a readymade abstract, it was not prepared by somebody else or Mother Nature and captured by a lucky photographer with keen eyes. Colours and shapes were created by contorolled lighting. It was a painstaking but also exciting work. Unmanipulated. I would appreciate if you left some words on your thoughts and feelings. chritho 0 Posted January 11, 2005 Hello Ivan, I like this picture, beautiful colours, but I did not understand your explanation what you said about 'painting' and Mother Nature. So, please tell what it is... Link to comment
ivan_scipiades 0 Posted January 11, 2005 Christophe, some abstracts are photographs of weathered surfaces (old rusted cars, housewalls) macros of trunks of trees, or of the play of light on anything. That means that the subject of a photo is something created by nature, and the role of the photographer is to find (to see a theme for a photo in a not so evident object) and capture it. My photo was taken IMO in a more complicated way, as my abstract is not a "found abstract". By painting I dare mean that colours and patterns were created by me, only what I used was not paint and brush, but light and camera.Of course a painter has total freedom of choice and possibility of reproducing what he/she previewed with the mental eyes while a photographer can only take what exists phisically - even if only virtuualy as for example a reflection. I see a certain difference between capturing a random pattern (even if it also demands keen eyes) and trying to create abstract patterns which follow certain rules of composition. I tried to do that. Whith what succes - should be judged by the viewers of my folder. Thanks for commenting and rating. Ivan Link to comment

ivan_scipiades 0 Posted May 26, 2006 Thanks for your very warm and really enthusiastic critics. Abstracts often remain without reaction here on PN. Ivan Link to comment
deniselanterman 0 Posted June 10, 2006 Ivan, your photos are stunning. The colors and composition are so beautifully balanced. Many of your photos look like paintings that should be in art galleries. I'm honored that you would take time to review my photo Field Poppy. I agree with your suggestion that the reds could be a little richer. I only know how to do simple enhancing in PS but will be able to express my vision better when I have more experience. Regards. Denise. Link to comment
ivan_scipiades 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Denise, thanks for your kind words. I am happy you like my works because I am getting doubts about them. Yes, when I was making them I was weghing the different elements of the picture thoroughly, so that they were in balance. But now I ask if these photos are not static. What static is, that is dull. As for PS, I am also a beginner, but I share my "knowledge" with pleasure. Cheers. Ivan Link to comment
