Loch Droma

ian cameron

Loch Droma bathed in lemon yellow Autumn sunshine ensures that the grasses are etched in gold against the waters of Loch Droma. Prior to this the view was obscured by a thick mist that hovered over the surface of the loch. Please feel free to visit my website, access times are a lot more rapid now. Transient light, There are some superb new shots at Timecatcher too.

I'm a little unsure about this one, as there is quite a large space

of unconnected blue water. I think the texture on the water and the

slight curve of the foreground grasses on the left side just about

provide sufficient interest for the eye to cross the water and

continue along the strip of land to the island in the mist but I

would be interested in your views.

Tough one... its not your best, but I think its a grower. When I first looked at it, my eye didn't really know where to go or what to do. But after a while, the angle between the shore and reeds, as well as the direction of the ripples, took me back into the islands and the mist( the mist definitely improves the shot). And I kind of like that single, large cloud for some reason, seems to be drifting along on the surface of the mist, and looks a little like a whale...

See what you mean though its ot a digital blend cos I don't know how to do it. I used highlight shadows in PS to bring it into line with the original transparency but I guess I will need to experiment more.

The light is so wonderful, and the distant fog is magical. This is a great shot. Water echoes fog, so not a problem. About the sky - you might want to consider cropping the top (where the least interest and that line or contrail lie): at the resolution of your "larger" view, I'm thinking about 90 pixels. Feels to me like it improves the punch.

Thankyou Don It does look like a contrail doesn't it, though I don't think it is. I toyed about with cropping the top down past it, but didn't want to lose that rather odd cloud floating above the left hill so I decided to leave it.

As noted above, not the best, but it certainly works enough for me. The curves of ripples lead the eyes just to the trees on the island separated from the background by the mist/cloud. And the marsh at the bottom is the righ anchor to hold me on earth. Yeah, if there was more space on the right, it could be better...

But anyway, 6/6

I like it. As much as is going on, the one thing my eye is drawn to is the cloud which, due to it's shape, seems to be just bowling along. 6/6

I really like the cloud the island and the colors. Have you thought of as a panoramic, just below the golden grass on the left and up? Very Nice.

Hi Jos, yes I have and I must admit I quite like the idea. It squashes the slightly disjointed elemnets together and makes theisland in the mist more significant. I will upload a more cohesive version in the same format that simplifies the elements see what you think of that. (coming soon).
