SE Asia Disaster - Helping Through Photography

darrin james

This shot, as indicated in the details was taken in Laos in 2002. We chose it for this cause as it depicts people, regardless of age Caring for each other.Hi All,The recent disaster in South East Asia is unprecedented in the need for Aid to help in the supply of the basics such as Water, Food, Shelter and Medicine. As some of you know, we have been selling our photographs, many from the affected regions, for a while now which has led to an idea that we hope will help those badly in need of those basics to survive. For as long as it is required, ALL profits from the photos sold off the website will be donated directly to the relevant Aid Organisations. The prices of the photos have been drastically reduced to encourage more sales during this period which will hopefully lead to a reasonable sum to be donated. Some of the shots have won International awards and the photos generally have been given substantial International recognition. For the small cost of the photos you will be receiving something which truly reflects on the culture of that particular place and the knowledge that you have helped out in the long process of rebuilding many many severely affected lives. There is now a section on our website which goes through this in greater detail including a Size and Price guide. Please visit Darrin JamesJ PhotographyEvery bit will go a long way, thank you for giving this consideration. If you feel this is a worthy exercise, please pass on these details to your family and friends. Dana and DarrinDarrin JamesJ Photography

Hi All,

The recent disaster in South East Asia is unprecedented in the need for Aid to help in the supply of the basics such as Water, Food, Shelter and Medicine.

I see alot of great images here on photo.net, but seldom does one reach out and slap me like this. If an image can tell a story, this one has. Something so simple, yet so amazingly Powerful. This is Photography at it's best. Thanks for sharing this with me, and with the world.

Respectfully, Robert Flanery

Remarkable photo! Very poignant. Great light. The care with which the girl is holding the baby is astonishing -- esp the right arm/left foot point.

And.. we await with baited breath, at least some donation from the trillionaires, such as the Vatican, the Sultan of Brunei, and the other Gulf States. Saudi, where the birth of Islam is supposed to have taken place, has put in a whopping 10mil. pledge from their trillions kitty. Mainly effected were muslims, even Kamala village, in Phuket where many tourists and locals perished or were made homeless, is a muslim village. Such lack of compassion. I have just returned to Vienna today from my holiday in Kamala, but luckily our villa lies 13m above sea level, the big one was 10 metres. If you go to www.kamalabeachestate.com, the villa on the lowest left part, is from where I watched natures slaughter.

Personally speaking, using imagery to boost your own conciousness is sick. This picture has NOTHING to do with the recent tragedy in South East Asia. This was taken way before the tragedy struck!

You are using this image to create 'AWW' value and to draw attention to your own photographic business. You are 100% sick!

David and Faith, give me a break!

They are selling photos and contributing all profits to help the Tsunami victims. Nothing wrong with that.

Darrin and Dana, thank you and keep up the good work.

As this photo was taken long before the tragedy, so was my attention drawn (hot sentence) to their work. I've been waiting anxiously for new "posts" for months!! (ie: I don't believe they "need" any gimmicks for their photography, let alone one so crass) This may or may not be someone actually affected, but if the idea is genuine (no reason to think it's not) I think that it's a noble attempt to lend a hand.

Wonderful photo. Horrible tragedy. Good luck with the fund raising. Post more often. Shame on Saudi Arabia et. al. That's my 2+ cents.

And using a past and reloaded photo combined with a present world disaster as a SALES COME ON to drive up their PN VISIBILITY... David was correct. This is SICK ADVERTISING

We have raised over ?1500.00 towards this cause now. Sorry you are too cynical to believe people actually want to help others through their skills or other means.

So why not do so OUTSIDE the gallery, huh??? Nope, you just wanted sympathy ratings to promote yourselves and your website.
