bunk1 0 Posted September 25, 2001 Hello All- Please have a look at my first attempt to do a semi decent existing light portrait. The model wanted some shots with some hats that her Grandmother left behind. We weren't real sure of what pose would look best, and best take advantage of the light situation, which was basically a northern exposure window with sheer curtains. See my other post "Female Portrait - Window Light 2" for the other shot we liked best. I am also looking for comments on exposure. Thanks. Link to comment
kevin_kolosky 2 Posted September 25, 2001 one thing you never want to do is break the plane of the face with the nose unless you are doing a profile. also, contrast is a little high. I would have moved her away from the window a bit, and added a reflector for fill. Link to comment
omer 0 Posted September 25, 2001 Did you try a black and white version of this shot? I believe it should look better in b&w. Link to comment
bunk1 0 Posted September 25, 2001 No I haven't tried a B&W version yet. I have been thinking about that and perhaps some diffusion as well though. Link to comment
relu_patrascu 0 Posted September 28, 2001 I second the previous two comments. Here's my hopefully constructive comment: put a scarf around the client's neck, or clad her in something with a nice looking colar. There's something quite striking about a long neck and no dress in sight below a stern face with a little furry hat. I don't find it visually apealing. A quick fix could be a tighter crop; that would emphasize the face and hat. Another thought: the model looks more irritated than thoughtful, but that's hard to control. Hope this helps.
