paul moshay 0 Posted December 28, 2004 A very nice first try Sarah. I would suggest the light not be so straight on to the model, it is a bit flat. Bring it a lot more from camera left to bring out her features better. The main light should be looking into the models face and just some fill light at camera. Link to comment

slyndan 0 Posted December 28, 2004 Paul - Thank you for your kind comments! I am starting off with learning to take a pleasing shot and will work with the lighting later. My friend did not have the best lighting options in her home either. Since this is my first nude shot I am still somwhat pleased with the composition, though I do agree the lighting is not very interesting. I will work on it. Thank you for your help! David - I suppose it is whatever you would want it to be? It seems to add to the mystery of this photo. I wouldn't want to ruin anyones imagination! Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted December 28, 2004 I wouldn't go too fast about the lighting. In one way, I agree. Then again there are two sides to every coin. The lighting as is makes the image look more like a drawing. So there is a personal taste or vision issue at play. PS Don't let the low ratings get to you. Also, try saving your images as .jpeg files. I think you might get better compression on Photo.net. Try it and see if there is a difference. Link to comment
james_oneill 0 Posted December 28, 2004 If this is your first then you should feel very encouraged to do more. The mood of the shot is lovely - it says to me that the model is relaxed with the photographer. You can do endless variations with the shirt more or less open. [Later... Ok you've posted a couple. Can you see how much more relaxed she looks in this picture than the one where she is looking into the camera ? The back is a good pose but it needs a change to the lighting to show up some detail better. This one, for me is definitely the best of the three shirt ones]Yes, the lighting is a little flat, but this sort of gentle nude doesn't need contrast that whacks you between the eyes. In any event, if you have a good eye, you can learn lighting a lot more easily than trying to develop an eye when you know about lights. Link to comment
neil fortescue 0 Posted January 2, 2005 A good well thought out pose, well framed and shot. Yes, the image could do with better lighting, but there are many images on this site with great lighting but are static, unimaginative shots. A great start. Link to comment
slyndan 0 Posted January 4, 2005 all of your comments are greatly appreciated! This is a good friend of mine and a brave one at that, I suppose it is easier to be comfortable around a camera when you are comfortable in your own skin. She is a great model and will be used a lot in my experimental stage of nude photography. These picture were taken with my Powershot 400. I have 3 rolls of 35mm B&W I have yet to go through. I am hoping to pull a few decent photos out of those. But again, when I feel comfortable with the poses and mood I will work more on original lighting. Thanks again everyone! Every bit helps! - sarah Link to comment
