Transient Light

ian cameron

Stunning transient light passed with amazing rapidity as the wind whipped clouds over the summit of partially lit Beinn Alligin. It was an astonishing site. I included some frosted foreground to give a sense of scale to this wonderous moment gazing across the lofty peaks of Torridon, Scotland. For once it was worth the toil of lugging a medium format camera up to the top. Please feel free to visit my website, access times are a lot more rapid now. Transient light, There are some superb new shots at Timecatcher too.

Named after my own website. It sums up the sort of fleeting moment I

enjoy most in landscape photography. Hope you enjoy it.

Hi folks for those that took time to comment thankyou very much. I was surprised by some of the low marks attributed to the aesthetic score. I don't have any feelings one way or the other in respect of originality as aesthetic beauty is truly the only rating that concerns me. Obviously I am the owner of the picture, I find it one of the most aesthetically beautiful shots I have taken. I never seek to change peoples opinions but it appears to have generated a response toward both ends of the spectrum. I would be very grateful if those that do not find it aesthetically pleasing would explain why. It is a picture that has moved me.

Hi Ian,

I have alwasy loved your pics and this is anothe stunner.. I'm just amazed at the kinda of B&W look and colour look you have simultaneously captured. The clouds actually look like a B&W shot and then the hill up front and the far of distance you can see a bit of water.. Its an amazing shot. Sorry I dont have a lot of expertise by way of technical words to express myself but suffice to say how perfect this image is and this is a kinda image I would strive to achieve and you should be really proud to have got this pic.. Great job.. Alsolute stunner.

Excellent photo Ian. Like the plasticity of the image and the colouring of the mountain face. The background of distant mountains with their snow capped peaks provides a balance to the sharp foreground. Great depth of field for an old slapper and a photographer with just one lens. :-) The colouring adds great warmth to the image and makes it pleasing to the eye. Would have been quite different in monochrome and you planned it well.

Day after day, you?re producing nice images for the group. Well done.

I'm not sure how you timed this shaft of light on the mountainside but I gotta hand it to you for being there to nail this...almost biblical scene. I expect Moses to appear with the Ten Commandments any second from now.

Stunningly beautiful scene which deserves very high marks.

I have seen those moments slip by all too often. I am glad someone is able to catch them for the rest of us. Great photograph! Regards.

Gary "old slapper", I hauled myself, my gear including an intolerably heavy tripod up that bloomin' mountain twice in a week. The second time I camped in a blizzard on the summit. Not just an old slapper with one lens but a daft old bugger too!!

Ian, this is really a terrific shot! Beautiful, yet subtle color, nice composition, and fairly dramatic sky. Perhaps if you applied some NIK filters and turned the sky a really unrealistic color you'd get higher ratings (joking)!

Ian, if your getting a mix of ratings like this, it usually means you're doing something right... this photo is so rugged, it could be used as symbolism for stubborn stubble in a razor advert! One of your best, and truthful to the location, and normal conditions!

Ian, this is a totally awesome image my friend. The light is wonderful and the shape of the mountain is so inviting.

Which peak is this? I'm heading North of the border in early jan and need to get some good climbing in.

Wagnerian! The awesome majesty of nature is perfectly captured in ths shot. 7/7. I just love the how the clouds echo the shape of the mountains. I really feels like you are standing there.

Hi Ian. I reckon this is a fantastic shot. It has everything- light, subject, composition, mood. I have no idea why anyone would rate it low. Maybe they're just jealous it isn't them with this photo. I have had similar experiences with people rating my favourite photos quite low. I just put it down to a matter of taste. Don't sweat it. Jim.

The mood is fleeting, yet very deep. I believe you have captured a wonderful mix of the moving darkness in the clouds, and the light shining on the top of the mountains. I expect you didn't drive to this location! I love it.
