Transient Light

ian cameron

Stunning transient light passed with amazing rapidity as the wind whipped clouds over the summit of partially lit Beinn Alligin. It was an astonishing site. I included some frosted foreground to give a sense of scale to this wonderous moment gazing across the lofty peaks of Torridon, Scotland. For once it was worth the toil of lugging a medium format camera up to the top. Please feel free to visit my website, access times are a lot more rapid now. Transient light, There are some superb new shots at Timecatcher too.

Glad to see very refreshing different colour tones. The amber foreground and grey background goes very well. One of my favorite combination of colours. Well Done.

Thankyou for your kind words folks. I really don't mind low ratings as long as the person gives their reasons behind it. I may disagree of course but it is my prerogative to do so. The mountain you are viewing is Beinn Alligin, the horns of alligin are to its right. I am standing on Tom Na Gruigach above the village of Torridon. It is a steep arduous climb of about 3 hours but the resulting views are awe inspiring.

Ian, this is my favourite region of Scotland. I have happy memories of climbing Suilven and Quinag in the mid 80s. I see Suilven in the background there with Canisp. Sorry to reminisce, now to YOUR photo! Absoultely fantastic image and great composition. I like the inclusion of the foreground ridge leading the eye right around. Transient light indeed, probably only lasting seconds?. 7/7 from me

Reminisce away David. If you gain pleasure from looking at my pictures then I have surely achieved my aim. Hope you get the chance to visit this wonderful area of Scotland again.

Ian Cameron, December 22, 2004; 10:14 A.M.

Gary "old slapper", I hauled myself, my gear including an intolerably heavy tripod up that bloomin' mountain twice in a week. The second time I camped in a blizzard on the summit. Not just an old slapper with one lens but a daft old bugger too!!

Just a minute Ian. Are you saying that all you had to do was poke the Pentax slapper out of the tent and the picture took itself, more or less? Ahh... that explains the prominent foreground.

Don't suppose the road is just 100 yards away as well?? Deceptive these mountain images. Works well regardless :-))

Awesome.

The only thing that bothers me slightly is the two heavy grey areas, top right. It would be more balanced if the top left had the same 'weight'.

I think the composition is well balanced. The light is very dramatic. The warm light shining on the mountain provide a pleasing point of interest. It works quite well for me. Cheers, -Clayton
