Photo for Birth Announcement

joshua_hadley

Originally a "throwaway", underexposed shot until my mother-in-law pointed out that baby's hand seemed to "glow". I took that idea a little further by selecting her hand & boosting the brightness & saturation, then inverting the selection & de-saturating. Mildly cropped from the original.

Please Comment & Rate. Almost overlooked this one (missed

flash; way underexposed) until my mother-in-law pointed out that

baby's hand "glowed" in the original. I decided to take that idea

one step further & boost saturation on her hand, while de-

saturating everything else. What do you think? Does it work? I'm

using this for her birth announcements.

This is charming, and I think will make a wonderful Birth Announcement. I might try to leave the wedding rings in color also. This might make a nice triangular composition, and would be nice symbolism. Just an idea.

Actually, both rings are white gold, so there's not much "color" to add there, but I might toy with that anyway and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the comments!

I agree - deathly looking! Think angelic. I would desaturate the entire photo only slightly, then put a transparent, white tint over the image (about 30%). Then, I would blur the edges so that the photo didn't look like too many fingers and hands. (See attached file.)

It's an interesting idea - but you went much too far with it. As already pointed out, the parental hands look deathly. You could have achieved a better result by keeping the parental hands much lighter than they are but desaturated. Also, I'd prefer that the father's wedding band be fully shown

Well, despite all the perceived deathliness, I can report that the birth announcements were *very* well-received, and somehow people managed to figure out that we were all still alive. Not a Real Photographer in the lot, no doubt ;-) And not a one was edited and sent back with comments. Imagine!
