....but unfortunately thrue. Most of the times you get low ratings from someone, they don't give a comment and so you don't know who gave it to you. We will have to live with that, same happends to me all the time. You know what I think of this image of yours Patrick. It's just wonderful....Best regards, Harry

Thanks to everyone that commented and rated my image! Extra thanks to Harry for your support! Aye.. its a shame some people just downrate photos for the heck of it. The two that gave me very low ratings hasnt got photos here themselves. Sad sad. But hey.. im glad the majority likes it! =))

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Cheers

I would have tilted the cam. down till the mast hit the top of the pix, and thereby got much more, or all of, the reflection. It would also have made it a more earthy, but still soft shot, and giving the pix. more harmony of light and dark, from the lovely, darrrrk foreground. Perfect exposure, interesting perspective.

Thank you for your support! I have no problems with those putting low ratings.. if they just could tell me why but they never do. Thanks and take care! =)

That might have worked.. not a bad idea! Problem is that i stood on a bridge taking this shot.. if i tilted down the camera to much the bridge will be visable. Perhaps another lens would have done the work though.. will go back there if the weather turns out "well". Thanks and take care! =)

Maybe I'm too critic, but the mole on the right side distracts a little bit. Also I should make a tighter crop to emphasize the main object - the boat. But you have done almost the best you could. 5/6

... I think you have got very good ratings for this photo and only two 3/4 ratings. And that's nothing to worry about. Regards,

Patrick,

I particularly like this foggy image. I like the vertical line of the mast and the parallel, horizontal lines of the cross beams on the mast. Then there is the somewhat 45 degree line proceeding from the bow. There is something of a fanning line effect from the center of the ship.

After having said what I did in my last post about people knowing buzz words such as "composition," "crop," "catch light," etc, here I go with my own suggestion. Take it as no more than one guy's thoughts. :-)

What I see here is what is often caled "center spot syndrome, where the subject is centered in the frame and other material, if it doesn't form symetry, it becomes more of a detriment than an asset. I am a "Rule of Thirds" addict...much of the time. IMO, this image is "made" for compliance with the Rule of thirds." The ship, placed on the lower left intersection would be excellent. Then from that point would "radiate" the vertical line of the mast, the horizontal line (where either visible or not) of the horizon itself and the top of the vessel and the 45 degree line off the bow. Then, with the Rule of Thirds, you would also have an increase in power of the "line" that runs across the tip of the mast at a downward angle across the top of the tree. The tree would then give good balance to the image rather than the image seeming overweighted on the right.

The only downside to cropping this pic to the Rule of Thirds that I see would be there is a nice ring effect of bright light around the mast that would be lost on the left side with a propper crop.

Your MASTERFUL work in your watch tower folder proves to me you understand the "Rule of Thirds". But nonetheless, I have added a small version of your image cropped to the Rule of Thirds.

This is a lot of yap; but this is a very worthy exposure and subject. A friend told me once that when someone gives you 10 minutes, that is 10 minutes of his/her life...given to you. While that is not so profound in reality; it is a thought we do not consider until it's pointed out. So understand that it is not my intention to give you a lesson; but rather give you respect you've earned from me with exposures such as the one above. I really play third part in junior high compared to some of you stronger artists.

Respectfully,

Certo

------For some reason, PN is removing paragraph marks in the html. ??? Sorry it's a solid block of text.
