james_davison 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Just got around to processing this. My girlfriend (in focus) and her crew. They won a silver medal at this year's world championships. Photos of those coming later. Thoughts appreciated. Link to comment

smhickel 0 Posted December 16, 2004 timing is everything (and so is composition). You did excellent work here. Steve Link to comment
erikadams 0 Posted December 16, 2004 An outstanding shot. I also wonder what it would look like with a shorter focal length. Looks like you were towards the long end of your 70-200 lens. Look at those deltoids! Link to comment
thomas_turk 0 Posted December 16, 2004 The canon digits didnt allow me to see any striations in the delts. One stop down, with the whites of the vests and outriggers correctly exposed, would have made this photo dramatic. The going OOF focus is great for 3D, good tight crop, and excellent tele compression effect. Link to comment
james_davison 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Wow, I should upload on a whim more often. I liked this shot (as do they) but didn't think it'd get this reaction. Erik, it was shot at 138mm (with the 1.4x teleconverter on). The 10D's crop factor exaggerates perspective a little, and it has the effect of a longer lens. Thomas, well, for the skin tone I think it's exposed perfectly, and the Canon 'digits' can't capture 'striations' if they aren't there to begin with. Thanks for your commnents everyone. dhawks 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Great composition and luminous effect. The sense of the moment here is very powerful...all-in-all a tour de force. 7s all around. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted December 16, 2004 Wonderful shot! The rhyming of the rowers positions is almost dance-like. Exposure looks absolutely fine to me. Link to comment
erikadams 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Interesting about deltoid striations or lack thereof. Women don't have 'em so much. Check out Igor Amelkovich's photo from the PN gallery. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2961036 I like the exposure and think that I have probably incorrectly exposed many water scenes. Hopefully that'll change with my new light meter. :) Link to comment
pbudd 0 Posted December 16, 2004 A very beautiful shot. The facial expression on the front rower is classic; serenity before the storm. Link to comment
schneekranich 0 Posted December 16, 2004 it has so much beauty in it, really like dancers, and the parallel structures give the rhythm Link to comment

bens 0 Posted December 17, 2004 great telephoto choice, great cropping and composition, something seems a little distracting above their heads, otherwise sensational. Link to comment
