tom_appel 0 Posted December 11, 2004 No filters used. I like the deepening blue towards the top. I have been shooting a lot of old signs for a project I am working on. Any thoughts on sky color? Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted December 12, 2004 Great series Tom! I am a sign junkie also. I'm interested in hearing about your project. I have always liked signs and took quite a few when my daughter did a Route 66 project for school (I don't need much of an excuse). I have just a few posted here at photo.net if you want to take a look. Click here for my sign photos. Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted December 12, 2004 I think your crop was a bit too tight. I don't think the ultra saturation was an improvement because the idea is to show the the aging (fading of the original colors). That is what makes it so good. Having said that, I must admitt that I often shoot these on saturated film to try and get some contrast in the colors. Tom - you might want to try some blur on the blue channel only. About .3 pixels will help remove some of the noise from the photo without sacrificing much detail. I hope you also took a vertical shot. I don't think we have any roller rinks around here any more. Bowling alleys are sometimes a good source of signage as well. Link to comment
root 0 Posted December 12, 2004 I understand that I've removed the sign aspect of the photo, but if it weren't for the project, the subject as a stand alone is stronger without the large white area. Maybe a sign that says nothing makes its' own statement and would work better in the context of other images with a similar message (anti-message?). I added red and yellow to my version in a clumsy attempt to simulate warm light. It's hard for me to imagine picking this one over a low angle light shot if both were on the light table. dennisdixson 0 Posted December 20, 2004 I thought the crop was OK but I would have included the top of the sign frame just to anchor things a bit. A black and white version of this might work better than color and a square format might work better than the landscape framing. Link to comment
