dougityb 0 Posted December 11, 2004 Nice homage, and nice homage to the homage. I can hear the jets roaring. Link to comment
leighperry 0 Posted December 12, 2004 A clever composition Phil. Of the segments that the square is divided into, I especially like the mid grey segment I see at top frame, bounded by structure at left, edge at top, and cloud at lower right. The cloud provides the missing division line that makes the composition work for me. I especially enjoy the fact that I didn't notice it immediately, but when I did, the composition snapped into balance. It felt like focus being achieved in a viewfinder. Link to comment
philmorris 0 Posted December 14, 2004 Thanks. I like it. And I like that a gamble on a 60+ year old camera for just 4.99 GBP turned out such a bargain. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted December 15, 2004 Interesting structure - I was not aware of it. Looks like the old Agfa is fit and well. I am a Kodak Retina man myself. Link to comment
philmorris 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Thanks Colin. This structure is a little over 12 months old. It's known as The Whittle Arches, and is named after one of Coventry's most celebrated sons, jet engine inventor Sir Frank Whittle. Designed by architects MacCormac Jamieson Prichard and structural engineers Whitby Bird and Partners, the scheme is made up of two arches spanning 50 m and rising more than 15 m. It's supposed to illustrate two wings, but I prefer to visualise it as the contrails of two passing jet aircraft. I'm told that at night it comes to life with some awesome 'electric lightning'.See here for example. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted December 21, 2004 Very impressive! I like the turbine blade/wing idea for the arches. Link to comment
