At first glance I thought that it was blood from a snake that had been cut in half. When I really looked at it though I discovered what it really was, I think? Fruit? I like!

I was kind of scared to take a closer look at this!! I thought the same, snake or something cut open! I admit, a morbid interest made click on this photo!

I think it's really cool precisely because it is a bit strange. The DOF is great, the quality of the juice is marvelous, and the white background works well.

this reminds me of a guy I know who literally scanned pictures of just about every food known to man....before, when the food was whole and then after he smashed it with his scanner cover. You are the only person since then who has photographed smushed fruit. Very original!

Very good image. I think it would be nice to have the entire red juice pool in the frame, as it seems to be cut off on the left hand side.

Allen... thank you for your comment. I couldn't agree with you more. This is one of those nagging things that I didn't see until afterwards. I have a version of this that I have printed where I did a bit if PS to round off that corner and it looks fairly natural.

 

I am finding that I need to devote so much more time to composition with macro. This is all new to me. Between seeing precisely what is in the frame and dealing with the infinitesimal DOF it is quite a challenge... but I like a challenge :)

Good luck on your journey. I too have a lot to learn, but it looks like you've got a great head-start on me. Keep up the excellent submissions!
