Although fairly difficult to meter (due to low light) and shoot, Antelope Canyon offers some of the most amazing photo opportunities in Southwest United States. The Wall of Fire in the background provides the light necessary for the purple flames to be illuminated. Hence, the title of the photo: Flames of Fire. All comments are welcome.

Nice detail. So often, the shots taken here are either too dark or too blown out. Yours seems fairly well balanced.

Agreed. A very well balanced look at a difficult lighting situation. Makes me wish I could get there and try it. I've seen plenty of slot canyon photos and this one really works for me. Let's see some more.

Artistic eye to recognize the potential here Jay. Wonderful colors and beautifully composed. You definitely pulled everything you could out of this location. Love the detail in the rocks as well. Really outstanding capture here once again.

I have seen similar shots on PN, but this has to be one of (if not) the best composition. Well done!!!

Thanks everyone for stopping by and taking time to critique this photograph.

To Jeffery: The crowds in Antelope canyon were very tame in November. There were only about 10 people when I was there (most of them from one photo tour). So, I had plenty of chances to shoot the Canyon without interruption. But beware that light condition are different in the Canyon in winter then the summer months.

Living in the Southwest, you may imagine that I see so many slot canyon shots that I cringe and run from the same old dramatic views that we have seen time and again.

This image is an exception. This is outstanding in every way and well above the ordinary. I could wish for just a bit more detail in those beautiful highlights you've achieved in the black bits, but that would be major nitpicking.

Really exceptional!

This is so different than other shots at the same location! The colors, light, and composition are very satisfying. Well done, Jay!

Beautiful photograph Jay! As long as this subject is depicted so well I could never grow weary from seeing it. Regards.

Awesome shot ! Excellent composition, and artistic use of color. How did you get the DOF (composite of two shots ?). Congrats, Carsten

DOF was not a problem as I was shooting around F8 and the relative distance in the photo was not that great. The extreme constrast in the lighing condition was a challenge to deal with. I had to select an exposure to not saturate the Red Channel (as much as possible) and still be able to retain enough details in the shadow areas.

By the way, no color filters were used for this photograph.

Very nice. Although the subject has been photographed before, many times, I really like your take on the subject, very creative and beautifull work with the light

This is about as good as it gets. One of the best, and most original slots shots I've seen. Amazing rendition of color, texuure and light. Fabulous work!! 7/7
