I like the three layers...the dark foreground shadows, the warm light and the hazy half-shadowed distance. Gives it all wonderful dimension. Beautiful!

I checked the picture out using adobe Photoshop and some Kodak software especially designed for "rescuing" deteriorated film images. BOTH packages clearly show extensive manipulation of the original image and I have attached the evidence showing the smudge marks you left in the image. This puts the credibility of your posted images in question from my viewpoint, especially since you submit them for critique.

This is a interesting discussion....I think that YOU have manipuled in terrific way my photo!!! remember that the original file il TIF is about 18 mega..and the photo that you can see here is reduced at about 200k...!!! Look this image..the same filed..the same moment and more narrow angle...!!!!

liar liar, pants on fire.....You're telling us now that I'm going through the trouble of manipulating YOUR image to make YOU look bad...riiiiight.....The images above are recompressed in PS to keep the file size down and to make sure they show up, image size has to be 410pixels...those are photo.net rules. BTW image file size has nothing to do with the manipulation flimflammery.....Basically here is my critique, based on your image AND your behavior:..I actually LIKE the image as posted, but felt the foreground is much too dark and abnormal. The abrupt breakoff of the background also looks strange. Shadows come and go in different directions. Greens have different tones in different parts of the image. So, while it looks "nice", it doesn't look real...it looks...fixed..and that's what I found. My premise is that with the camera equipment you claim to have used, this kind of gameplaying in posting an image is NOT going to wash with me...others can have their own viewpoint and opinion, that's what critique is for...I believe in accountability for a posted image. We make the effort to look at images and give feedback. YOU must make the effort to not play headgames.

Sorry, another party is already calling me "Cowboy"!! I realize that this year, it has been very trendy to submit images of Italian countryside, and there appears to be some competition with some parties to "outdo" each other. But, us "cowboys" have also traveled extensively AND worked in Europe, in my case as a Formula Car Mechanic, so I know the countryside, BUT I also know the mentality. The issue here is to simply state "I took this image, but made some extensive changes" to get "the look" My premise is, why bother to make the changes? Just to look like "another Italian Countryside image"? I challenge you to take the image with some effort, i.e Get up very early in the morning, or spend some time setting up the shot. For instance, what is quite clear in many of the shots (and not yours alone), is that the party simply stopped by the side of the road, and took a picture. This observation alone, has gotten me some angry replies on other images. It might be quite neat if some hiking was done to find a "less standard" lookout point for some neater perspectives on this countryside.

Il Gatto e la Volpe.....(the cat and the fox..about Pinocchio)....

Look this..the same field..at the same hour, at the sunrise.. (in a different angle) one week before, and in a sunny day...!!! The photo "light & shadow"..was made in a cloudy day and a little foggy when only a sunbeam in the field!!! Now is clear or also this image is manipuled????????

You're dialing in correctly. Much better, and the colors are better...but a wider angle lens maybe...You have a rich choice of scenery to choose from is my premise.

Interesting to read and John appears to have very valid points and skills of a nasa crash investigator...makes my head spin.

Not taking any sides here in any way, don't care.. but look at that first image he posted and got the feeling of incredible DOF with dreamy feeling.. and long wondered why guys would post these "so dark is my monitor on?" images when thats at their fingertips...it exceeds this image when the bottom part is ignored.

Hello *, maybe the fog in Francesco's original posting has confused John? Sometimes people think that pictures taken in mountains in partly foggy air does not look real. They do not understand that there can be clear air before the "greyed" area lol.gif...

interessante dibattito sul vero o falso... Personalmente me ne curo poco visto e considerato che la maggiorparte dei fotografi in qualche modo ritocca le proprie foto, lo si faceva anche in camera oscura mi pare... Per me sei davvero bravo pennellata + o -!!!!

Questi sono piu' o meno i paesaggi di casa mia e so benissimo che qui non c'e' niente manipolato o alterato. E la foto mi piace tantissimo! Ottima Francesco ancora una volta!

Illka: I grew up in Europe, am quite familiar with fog and the hazy weather, and have driven in fog so dense that I had to have the car door open to feel the edge of the pavement with my foot. Sure, it can be hazy; this time of the year it might be hazy ALL day, and sure, you can have days with some fog and bright light as well...but in this case, I just didn't buy it as posted...
