Yes, it surely makes the picture interesting. For three reasons. First, the contrast of colours of the rock and the water+sky. Second, the texture of the rock, which is at angles all different from the regular ripples in the water. Third, the composition with so much spaces above the geyser hole suggests the energy of the vertical steam which is waiting to explode and fill all of this third dimension.

I agree with the previous comments. This image reminds me of one I saw many many years ago, I believe in National Geographic that also included a fisherman standing either on or next to one of these lake geysers with a fishing hanging over the vent as if he was cooking it.

 

I tried to locate the lake geysers last summer while there but wasn't successful. Thanks for sharing.
