I like the hair blending into the background. The crop is very gimmicky, and the skin is overly ruddy.

Like I said, this picture was taken a few days before the man died. The reason I cropped it the way that I did was based largely on this fact. This is also why I wanted him to blend into the background. I wanted to leave the viewer with a final look into his eyes, before he was pushed out of the frame and blended into the background.

The cut of the photograph, the blending, the high key, and the subject matter with your explanation of what you were doing all contribute to an excellent piece of work.

Usually I don't believe in such extreme framing tricks, but since this is a dying man, the composition here seems to emphasize that he is not fully alive anymore. The effect it has on me is sadness. Good job.
