I love portraits of children, so when I saw this on the first page, I thought I'd take a look. She's a lovely little girl with beautiful eyes, but something doesn't look right to me. I've been in places where little ones are dirty with mussed up hair, but looking closely, she doesn't look dirty or deprived. At a closer look, she doesn't even look sad to me. She may be annoyed or just bored with having her photo taken. So, I was relieved to read your comment, Chester, that she is "a very gentle, quiet, self content and normally smiling child." I feel confused when I look at this photo because she's represeting something that she's not. The reason I like taking photos of children so much is because they usually don't know how to disguise their feelings or to hide their natures - they are who they are. Because of the hair, possibly the lighting, the photo is saying something that her expression isn't and that's why it makes me uncomfortable. Still a lovely photo, but I'd really like to see one of her represented as she really is and what a masterpiece that would be!
