Guest Guest Posted July 1, 2005 Wow, you really capture some great moments! I hope you've decorated your house with enlarged framed photos like this, because they are priceless! This is too funny. Is this a usual occurence? Link to comment
sky blue 0 Posted July 1, 2005 Kim this was an interesting shot. Sadly it doesn't happen anymore as this hen met her end with some bad dogs. As for the almost daily ritual, I'm not sure how it started but she began laying her eggs in the feed trough and I guess one thing led to another. My son came running in to imform me the first time and it became a regular routine. Finally thought to grab the camera. The horse never seemed bothered by it. And thank you for your interest and comments. Guess we could type critiques for hours, there are so many good photos on PN. Have a great and safe 4th. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 2, 2005 That is sad about the hen. I'm glad you got the photo! We used to have chickens. We lost a rooster we raised to a stray dog. I personally don't think there is anything funnier to watch than a chicken running full speed across the yard. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 3, 2005 Can a horse and hen photo be more original than this one? Such a cool photo of creatures doing their things without setups. You may have seen mine and I really enjoy seeing such photos as yours or being lucky enough to capture one. Quite original and funny! Link to comment
sky blue 0 Posted October 3, 2005 That hen would not stay off this horses mane for anything. She did it for quite awhile till it got too cold and she moved back in the hen house. I guess it was a pretty good nest as far as she was concerned. Guess she felt like a queen. I will look again for yours. I have somehow missed it. ~Sky Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 4, 2005 Sky, no need to scan through my portfolio if you don't have time. I created a link in my initial post. It's an image of a bull moose wandering through town when he met a curious cat. It's more like a snapshot without much thought but I consider the image the most original for that trip. sky blue 0 Posted October 4, 2005 Now that you mention it. It wasn't as much of a suprise to me as it was too familiar. I did like it. I had a cow moose chase my husky almost into the front door one time. Ice was thick on the ground and at the doorway and I'll never know to this day how that cow moose turned in time to keep from smashing through the door or into the cabin wall. That poor husky sure thought she had breathed her last as she shot between my legs and was yelping all the way. Not knowing what I was opening the door to and bracing myself for impact, I think I probably felt the same. I did enjoy your elk photos very much... I always called the one in your photo an Elk. But I have heard of them being called moose too. I haven't seen a moose in 10 years. Maybe time for me to make a trip once the fuel goes down again. ~Sky Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 4, 2005 oooops! I think I was WISHING to have seen a moose (did searched for one) but saw a bunch of elks instead. Good story on the moose... Link to comment

sky blue 0 Posted May 20, 2007 This was the first time I had witnessed this and had to grab the camera. It went on for many days. Glad it rekindled a good memory. ~Sky Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted January 14, 2010 I've been meanderin' through your critter folder and when I came across this shot I really started to cackle....er, chuckle. That ol' hen knows a warm spot up off the ground when she finds one. And Sky, that's got to be about the homeliest head on an ol' horse that I've ever seen, he looks like he got kicked square in the nose and it swelled up, now don't tell him I said that and go and hurt his feelin's. sky blue 0 Posted January 15, 2010 Howdy Susan, Yep this was my son's horse when he was a little fellow. Ol'e Buddy reached his limit a couple of years ago pushing 30 years old. The nose was actually permanently bent to the right. It was broken severely when he was kicked by a big horse as a young pony - he was a gentle and good horse for my son. I think a big stray dog got the hen, well all the hens while we were at church. (Didn't eat a one, just littered the yard with black chickens.) I'm glad I got this picture. It happened quite a few times. I think we see much of life that is special to us but we don't contemplate that one day it will be gone. Nice how photography keeps those memories alive. Glad for your visit, Susan and good to see you again. ~Sky Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted January 15, 2010 Yup, I know the story....when Jenny was real little we bought an old black mare off a killer truck, she was so homely I called her Miss Beastly but Jenny named her "Rainbow", and that ol' mare packed that child anywhere she wanted to go and never turned a foot wrong. Aw, the memories. Link to comment
