Ninety Miles Away

arlo_midgett

As I´ve mentioned before, I´m a snapshot-aholic. On my first morning in Cuba, I found myself snapping tons of throwaway, full-auto shots of my walk through Havana. I was closing in on finishing my first roll of film when I happened upon this girl sitting on the breakwater. Finally, I took my time framing a picture! When I caught up to my friend, I remember telling him: "I just took my first good photo in Cuba..."

Excellent photo! It is symbolic of the hard realities faced by many people around the world daily. That is where the beauty of this photo lies! To critique it for technique - would be a waste - WE would be missing the big picture!

Well composed, but again, you need to take tme and open up some of the shadows. With all that detail shown on the girl's skirt and top, more is called for on her skin, if possible.
