jason_fichtl 0 Posted October 27, 2004 I really like this one. the colours are certainly beautiful but also the balance of the features - the canoe and the rainbow. One issue though - I would have liked to have seen a shot with more focus on the canoe. good shooting. cheers Link to comment
john_h.1 5 Posted October 27, 2004 This isn't the typical rainbow shot. Its also nice to see one that isn't the product of Photoshop. Link to comment
wheely 0 Posted October 27, 2004 Thanks Jason and John for your comments, I appreciate them. John, glad you appreciate the lack of post processing on this one, believe me, the sky was quite extraordinary and any post-processing I might have done would not have been able to compete with the actual scene. Jason, I take your point on this and I too would have liked sharper focus, however the light just wasn't up to it (at least not at my skill level). This was shot with the lens wide open at 1/13th second shutter speed so my depth of field was not going to be great and I was going to at least get motion blur on the boat and possibly too blurred a background if I had focused on the boat. I would very much appreciate advice on how I might have achieved it though. Thanks again Link to comment
photos of hans koot 0 Posted October 27, 2004 Mark, wonderfull shot. Maybe you could have adjusted the (film)sensitivity to 400 or 800 asa? A portion of unsharpmasking in PS helps. (tried it with quite a lot for the large sized PN version , 200% at radius 2.0) Link to comment
wheely 0 Posted November 2, 2004 Thanks Hans for your suggestion which I will surely try out. Link to comment

wheely 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thanks for dropping by Norbert and thanks for leaving a comment. I don't quite understand it but this is my highest rated and highest viewed image and I never even put it up for critique. Funny old world! Link to comment
5711 0 Posted February 7, 2005 okay..i see..i made you have 10 ratings on this one here:)..its really cool..also the framing works very well..maybe it would have helped to see the guy in the boat a bit easylier(that right?-the word easylier..i dont know :/ )..as a thumbnail you cannot see this guy..hes too dark..so if there was some light on him it would have been great.. wheely 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thanks again Norbert. Actually it was all rather dark and trying to get the exposure and the DOF ,meant I didn't have the shutter speed I'd have liked. The boat was moving gently but fast enough. I didn't even think of raising the ISO which would have solved my problem. Didn't have time to get the tripod out of the car. The scene lasted about three or four minutes after I arrived. Never mind :) Link to comment
5711 0 Posted February 7, 2005 the iso...hehe...i always forget this too haha..okay..i see..but raising the iso will make you get a grainy picture..okay..im out see you around ! Link to comment
wheely 0 Posted February 21, 2005 THanks again D F. I couldn't quite get the composition I wanted on this shot. The canoe isn't quite in the right place for my liking but I appreciate your stopping by to comment. Link to comment
wheely 0 Posted February 23, 2005 Another shot I've have had on PN for a while but neglected to put up for critique. I feel I should have raised the iso here to have been able to get the canoe sharper but maybe the movement of the canoe is not a bad thing. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 8, 2005 This is my favorite one in your portfolio, but I'm partial to rainbows! I don't mind that the guy in the canoe is dark, because my focus is on the rainbow. Very unique for a rainbow (although I don't care much about uniqueness either). I also love your duck on the lake photo, and the "string" series! Link to comment
