Although you seem to be in a dangerous position (long lens?) you have done an excellent job capturing the feeling of the situation. I can almost taste the feeling in this image. Great job!

personally i think by leaving in the background,it adds to the tension.you

get a real feeling that something could

spark off.a very strong image.

It's an interesting shot. But three things detract from it I feel. The composition, it's too grey and also very soft.

It could be cropped, but maybe you should have tried to get a better angle.

What's it about anyway? The riot guys look somewhat relaxed.

Simon,

Hindsight is always 20/20 and everyone has their own idea as to angles, cropping, etc. I have enjoyed looking at the images you have of this confrontation. By placing yourself right in the middle of things you have given the viewer a perspective that we usually don't see. I admire that fact that these were not taken with a long lens. Perhaps compositions would have been different if you had used a longer lens, but I think your perspective has added to these images.

While one can always crop things differently in the darkroom or on the computer and change other aspects of the images, all those changes will also change the feelings your images provoke.

Once again, thanks for sharing this event. I for one have learned from your images, perspective and dedication to your craft. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Regards and Good Light!

Jim

first of all thanks for your comments because that s why i m here. this shot and the other from this location were taken at a demonstration against a rightwing party. there were about 100 members of a right wing party and about 1000 who were against them. i decided to take part at the big "against" demonstration. after a while the police closed the streetfrom both sites as there were some bottles flying and no one couldn t get out including me. this one is taken about two hours after they closed the street and some impatient people did want to get out. About your crop suggestions, i agree a tighter crop has its advantages, but my intention was to show more of the street scene and i didn t want to crop the man with the cap on the right. at the other shots of this series i chose a tighter crop, concentrating my lens to one or few people..thanks for your thoughts always appriciated. regards
