Hello Picture This,

I believe that the theme for this is patterns. As far as theme fit goes it doesn't work for me. Although patterns are present in the image they are a bit to construed. Maybe a very tight crop on the seed heads would have defined patterns much better. Also I don't understand why the flower has been put to one side of the frame. I know that centring is often frowned upon in photography but in this case I believe it would work better centred in a square frame. This said however forgetting the theme fit this is a beatiful image on it's own merit. I like the limited DOF and the pastel shades of the flower. The yellow stamen and highlight top left do distract the eye little though.

Fits the theme but I think Steve has an idea here. Maybe not in his crop suggestion but more so in the idea of closer mihgt be better. I see interest in the center. A nice macro might work better.

As it stands the images just lacks for me. The crop is just a bit too close on the right side. The light is a bit unbalanced for me also as the brightness on the bottom is stealing attention to the overall image.

Have to agree with Steve and Dave i'm afraid. Patterns are there but the pic is weak with the uneven lighting and poor composition. Also the DOF field should either be sharp throughout or much more selective than here. As it is the outer petals particularly are just soft and make the pic look poor IMO. As Dave suggests, a much tighter macro image would be a good idea but I think you need a more interesting speciment to work with if you want to do this.

Idea good, execution poor i'm afraid. Sorry PT

Cheers

I'm not at all bothered by the soft outer petals and sharper centre, in fact I quite like that and the way it draws one into the heart of the photo here, where the pattern twirls slightly. BTW it's something I've used myself on another floral PT photo some time ago (I'm hoping that will send people searching). My critique here would be for more even lighting: the top seems OK but the bottom seems a bit bright (nearly overexposed). It could do with a bit more space on the right edge too, but all in all I'm more positive about the shot than the previous commenters. I like the muted purple, green and yellow colours.

I like the dof and the apparent spiral pattern in the centre. Chroma might need adjusting, feels like CMOS! There's vitality in this, especially in the centre where potential is revealed through the seeds awaiting their carrier, the wind. It fits, PT, I'm impressed.

Thanks for the comments, the colors need to be adjusted but PT thinks reframing is not neccessary. The picture was taken in natural light leading to uneven colors.

I like the idea, and it certainly is an intriguing flower, but I am not of the party that likes the DOF treatment on this one. While it does force the eye into the center, I think the center has enough interest to draw the eye without first being subjected to the blurred petals. The foreground petals are too integral to me to be so blurred.
