dwm1953 0 Posted November 2, 2004 Some good ideas here, though I'm not the biggest fan of the depth of field or the aspect ratio chosen, preferring greater depth of focus and a tighter composition. I played with it a bit and came up with this for your consideration... Link to comment
sooz1 0 Posted November 3, 2004 Hay David, thanks for your version! I appreciate people who comment and offer help with my work ( so thanks to the rest of you to!!!), as I am now studing for the final part of my Alevel in photography and any advice helps!. your version is interesting... you cut alot of the dead space at the top (i can appreciate why, there's nothing there) but I kind of like the way that the wood grain leads you up the immage, wich it still does in your version, but not as much. One thing I realy like is that you fliped it so the nail is on the right rather than the left- I diddn't think of that, but it is interesting to the effect it has... I like it, it's made me view the immage differently. I was wondering why you did? Link to comment
dwm1953 0 Posted November 4, 2004 Hi Susan, as important as the flip, I added some rotation before cropping (unfortunately, this resulted in having to crop too much on the bottom). We tend to "read" photographs from left to right. The rotation oriented the wood grain so that the eye moves naturally from the lower left to the upper right where the nail is. The nail was placed on the upper left as this is the natural destination of the eye's travel. A levels adjustment was made to the nail alone to bring out interesting detail, the color was saturated also to add interest. Finally local contrast enhancement was applied to give the image some added snap. And of course all images should be given a nice frame. Regards, D. Link to comment
