jdsuttonphotography 0 Posted September 6, 2001 wonderful image; just a touch heavy on the right side with all that darkness; marks not higher on originality because we see so many of these stacks images; though I hasten to add that for me that does not detract from the beauty of this image. brian_kennedy 0 Posted September 8, 2001 Strange... I posted this a couple of days ago, it had one comment and 4 ratings for two days, then suddenly today I see it has several comments and a ton of ratings (geez, it looks like Peter Harvey didn't like this one much ;)). Meanwhile, other photos of mine -- and other photos from other people -- that are superior to this one have apparently not gotten the same audience. I wonder what happened? In any case, thanks very much for the constructive and friendly comments. The sea was more active, and the sky was more colorful that evening than any other evening during the weeks I was in the Big Sur area. A beautiful place for photography -- I'm jealous of all of you who live within a day's drive! Link to comment
tmjacobs 0 Posted September 9, 2001 Brian, I've also experienced what you described in your last comment: a photo that's not necessarily much better than others suddenly getting a lot of ratings and comments. Although I'm not sure I think it has something to do with the fact that if a photo has >5 ratings in the first week after upload (both originality and aesthetics must be >5) it appears on the 'photo critique top-rated pictures' page. That's how I hit upon this photo too. It's probably a much visited page. The luck factor is in getting these first 6 ratings soon enough. These criteria are the default 'filter' settings on that page and I guess most visitors don't change them.Great photo BTW! Link to comment
think27 0 Posted October 4, 2001 When I opened photo net... This image was on the right side of the page..where it says "Rate this photo".. That could be why you are getting so many hits. That is why I'm here. Anyway, as ususual Brian, you know I love your work and this is beautiful. I actually agree with the cropped version. Link to comment
tom_menegatos 0 Posted November 9, 2001 Brian first let me say that depending on when a photo gets uploaded more people have the oportunity to see it and rate it. At one point I remember wanting to figure out when that time was but I never really gave it much thought. Now I understand completely why this photo would get so much attention. I haven't been in your folder for a while. This is a great picture. I like the sky better in the top one but the composition better in the second. The colors are great good choice of film for this type of scene. The "mickey mouse" saturation works in my opinion. I'd be happy to have either of the two photos hanging on my wall even though I didn't take them :) They are really stunning. The reflections of the forground rocks are very nice. A little shadow detail in the midground rocks would have been nice but not a big deal. The big thing is how the colors work so well together. Link to comment
