A second flash to fill some of the shadows might have resulted in a more balanced image. Some of the highlights seem a bit burned out to me, especialy on the upper edges. Neat capture just the same.

thanks everyone for your comments. this is actually natural light with no flash - just summer noon sun. i agree fill flash would have balanced the lighting - or going back later in the day.

It's a good idea to place the object against a black background. It works very well concerning the colour and beautiful shapes of the mushroom.
