Excellent macro, I prefer this one over the other. It shows the whole body.

I expect you have photographed praying mantis before. I have and never felt real pleased about with the results, but they were learning exercises and I released the subject insect unharmed into a more suitable habitat than the sports bar illuminated white over-patio sign where I had observed her.

I notice that the shadows here are carefully utilized. The fundamental similarities between the brown body of the grasshopper being eaten and that of the bright green predatory mantis form the basis of the picture in my estimation. And the eyes are marvellously expressive. "Can't you see I'm busy now? Go away with your intrusive camera already," the eyes say.

I am not a fan of putting universalizing titles on images like this, but I have noticed that photography guild judges and do seem to like them, so now you might as well go ahead and enter the image into some competitions. It's a winner.
