Champagne pink morning sunlight, filtered by the overhanging birch trees, contrasted with the blue reflected light of the sky in the shadows. The gorgeous light comlementing a delightful winter scenic of virgin snow covering the shallow rocks in the stream near Dunphail, Forres. The peat stained water has been lightened to the colour of burnt gold as it passes over plates of ice beneath the surface of the river. Please visit my website, Transient light, There are some superb new at Timecatcher too.

A beautiful winter scene with sublime light over a shallow brook near

Dunphail, Forres, Scotland. The high level of detail may well suffer

in compression but it looks fine on my website.

Wonderful light and colors (colours,) Ian! It hits all the senses. BTW, did you meter off the right bank where the branches are at? Man, I can't believe winter is upon us already. ^_^

Gorgeous!!! you have managed to capture it all, snow, water, light. I imagine a difficult shot to get the exposure correct. Someday... if I live long enough, I will get such a shot.

Excellent!

My exposure technique for snow scenes rarely varies. I do a quick spotmeter check to see if the lightest and darkest areas are going to be largely within the five stop exposure range of transparency film I use. It usually is because the snow is so highly reflective that it fills in the shadows with the bounced light. Next I spotmeter the SUNLIT snow. If I want it pure white I add two stops to the reading. If I want a little textural detail, I add 1 and 2/3 stops to the base reading. It works for me.

Awesome. This is a shot that one would have to wait years for. You've done a wonderful job at turning something professional into a spectrum of unbelievable feelings. Thank you.
