Blood red black

ian cameron

This is right beside Dunstanburgh castle a famous viewpoint in Northumbria. i was there to capture the obligatory sunrise with oblique light striking the castle and black rocks. I arrived predawn and setup to await a stunning sunrise. Then it happened, astonishing isn't it, NOT. I threw back my head and laughed, someone up there was having a joke at my expense. I took a picture of a tiny crimson ball on the horizon more for my own humour than any other reason. I must admit though when I got the film back I was very pleased with the result. Please visit my website, Transient light, There are some superb new at Timecatcher too.

I'm biased because I love rock photos, but this one is very good. I hope you've posted the technical details, because I'll be taking a look!

I'm not too sure about the title, and there's what seems to be a "halo" on one of the smooth stones just at the waters edge on the right 1/4. I wonder what it's due to? Just distracts a bit, that's all.

Good pic, bad title. Wonder what it would look like without the rock jutting out of the water? Its drawing my eye to it, but this is the sort of picture where my eye wants to be free to travel its own route, take its own time...

Now this is a "real" photo. Beautiful as Igor put it so well. Not messed with. 7/7

The title is admittedly tongue in cheek. Intolerable British humour i'm afraid. The halo on the rock I must admit it isn't that obvious to me maybe it's a limitation with the flatbed scanner I use never-the-less I am fairly satisfied with it. Technical spec. I think its been covered. hard edged 0.6ND grad across the horizon, levels, shadow/highlight and sharpening.

Ian,

Talk about "Intolerable British humour" I see a clown face....the breaks in the clouds are the "eyes' and the sun as the big red nose....too funny.

The extended DOF really works well here. I like the amount of space you filled with rocks. very nice!!

These rocks look so real on my monitor I feel like I could reach out and touch them. Amazing 3d effect.

Hi Ian,

I think you got a better picture than the one you anticipated. I've seen so many photos of the castle - it's been done to death.

So this is a refreshing change, and I think it's quite original for the location.

Makes me want to visit now, whereas before, I wasn't that interested at all. Those rocks looks great.

All the best with your slide show in East Kilbride.
