I dont know whether to cherish or despise this photo, this was taken on board the pacific sky cruise ship as we sailed home into sydney harbour

1 sec or 1/2 sec exposure, early evening, f2.8, 50mm, yashica fx-3.The boat was rocking, I love the colours and the effect, but bugger that, i would much rather have had a sharp pic!

Let's face it the muse nudged your arm on purpose causing you to blur an otherwise mediocre image into an impressionistic gem. The light is dramatic in this and the colors agreesive. It's a primier painting but unfortunately most will see it as an unfortunately blurred photo. While I don't think it would have mass appeal there is something that appeals to my sensibilites.

Mr. Duke, your photos often express your eye for dramatic colors -- I look forward to seeing more from you.

Truly David, I don't know whether I do like this photo or despise it, I indeed love the colours produced and the effect, however I resent not having the SHARP photo I was actually looking for, but could not get...

Mark, many years ago I did a series of pics of Perth at night from King's Park. Most were sharp and well exposed. For an experiment I tried hand-holding one, with a result similar to yours. I really liked the effect and submitted it to a well known photo magazine. They sent it back with a note saying they wouldn't consider such a badly made image, and why don't I get a tripod. "Philistines!" I muttered darkly. About two months later the same mag published a whole article on the brilliant effects you can get by hand-holding at night!

I don't know what the moral of my story really is, but if you like your picture, then it's a good one.
