This is my first attempt at a still life setup.

I overexposed this shot intentionally, so as to keep the attention on

the contents of the glasses, not the stems. Does this work for you,

or do you find the lack of detail (AKA blown hilights) to be a problem?

What do you think of the way that the shadows on the background fall?

Are they distracting your eye from the subject? Should I have made

some attempt to blend them in more, perhaps by diffusing the light

coming through the window?

Is there anything else about this shot that I should fix? I plan on

trying this one again next time the light is right, and I would like

to see this from other people's eyes as well.

This is (IMO) a striking and creative shot.

Does this work for you, or do you find the lack of detail (AKA blown hilights) to be a problem?I don't think that there's any such thing as overexposure in this situation - most pro photographers would have diluted the liquids and given 'correct' exposure, you've achieved a similar effect by 'over' exposure, almost getting rid of the background and stems in the process. This has worked well, and having the bases out of focus helps too.

Should I have made some attempt to blend them in more, perhaps by diffusing the light coming through the window?A small point, but I would have cropped less tightly and placed the light slightly further back so that the shadows when straight into the corner, leading the eye to the subject.

Apart from not cropping so tightly, no - but I may be wrong about the cropping, I'm a commercial photographer and so almost from habit tend to leave space for text etc.

Hope this helps
