derek_prinsloo 0 Posted November 29, 2004 This isn't a perfect picture. It's more of a request for help. I'm working on a limited camera budget (especially after sinking a significant amount into buying my D70). I've been wanting to try out these sorts of studio shots, but only have a very basic manual flash. Having the flash mounted on the camera doesn't do much for artistic shots, so I've been trying to put the flash at an angle. The only way I could do that was to have a long shutter speed (like 1s) and manually trigger the flash from the side. This works okay - but not great. If anyone has any other suggestions (until I can afford a true Nikon flash with either remote or tethered off-camera capabilities), I'm all ears. But if you can't think of anything, I'd be more than happy to hear your thoughts on my picture of a fork :) Link to comment
peter.gargiulo 0 Posted November 29, 2004 I just got a D70 as well, and the SB-600 dedicated flash. Great flash, but I probably wouldn't use it, soley, for such a shot. What I do (and I'm no professional) is gather as many light sources as I can and arrange them for the best lighting. For example, you can get real cheap ones at a Home Depot...the metal cone with clips. Put in a few different type bulbs (GE Reveal, pastels, etc) and arrange as you wish. Also, have some transparent paper (tracing) and some white boards for softening and reflecting some light. Just have to be creative about your light sources! Link to comment
shawn_hooper 0 Posted November 29, 2004 Being a Canon guy, just asking....Is there an off-camera shoe cord for the D70??? Link to comment
derek_prinsloo 0 Posted November 29, 2004 I think there is - but if my understanding is correct, the D70 makes that redundant with its IR remote capabilities. I haven't done a lot of research into flashes though, so I don't know for sure... Link to comment
