viktorsundberg 0 Posted September 20, 2004 This is very, very cool.... Ive seen a lot of b/w and color IR, but nothing that looks like b/w IR, but is color, if you get what I mean... How did you do it? But note that it's a great shot mainly cause of the effect, I would like to see something similar, a bit more complex with a more dynamic landscape. You have too much grass in the foreground too and could easily crop half of that. When it doesn't have structure, it doesn't really add to the feeling of depth either.. Link to comment
esdras menezes 0 Posted September 20, 2004 very cool effects... i liked the colors used on the trees... very original.. 6/6 Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted September 20, 2004 Very pleasing image, Jay. Victor is right about cropping the grass. It would have been interesting perhaps to include more sky, the clouds are fantastic. Best regards. Peter Link to comment
jay_philbrick 0 Posted September 20, 2004 Thanks, everyone, for the comments. Good points raised by a couple of you about the amount of the field in the foreground. Thanks. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 21, 2004 This is an amazing IR. I used B+W092 filter on D70 and failed badly. I had some advices from Tony and Allon, the other IR guys whom I really admire. But I blamed my camera, until I see your shot. Jay, we need to talk. :D Link to comment
venicia_l 0 Posted September 21, 2004 Beautiful, arresting image, Jay. I think the expanse of green foreground adds to the drama. But it would be interesting to see the shot with more sky.Would you share your technique in achieving this image?VL Link to comment
jay_philbrick 0 Posted September 21, 2004 For this shot I first took an image without the IR filter. Then keeping the aperture and focus (had it locked after the ist shot) the same, went to manual exposure and bracketed around 1 second with a Hoya R72 IR filter on. WB manually set to the bright green grass for the IR shot. In PS I adjusted the color of the IR shot with a Channel Mixer adjustment and then pasted the IR version over the normally colored image. Then I erased or masked out the grassy portion of the IR layer, leaving the green grass of the normal photo showing. So, basically it's a composite of a normal image and an IR image. I hope this helps some. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted September 21, 2004 Jay, thanks for the tip. This does help. I guess I will replace my B+W IR filter with a Hoya then. Link to comment

simanta 0 Posted October 12, 2004 perfection - beauty - smoothness - tough to find an example where all go hand in hand. I never shot IR, but this one really haunts me into it. Link to comment
