I like this picture. It captured a certain mood; sadness, departure, lonliness, etc.

 

I would lower the camera angle to bring the head above the horizon line, and wait a little until the man is further down, or move the camera a little to the right, to get ride of the vessels on the right. You probably don't need all the vessels to tell the story.

I prefer the original. I like the open beach in front of the subject. Gives a sense of direction. I'm not sure if direction is the right word to describe what I'm feeling but suffice to say I like the space in the original.

This is a great shot that has its mood. I like how the person and ships are heading the same direction. It creates a feeling of movement to a place everyone wants to go.
